So you
want to copy those patch items, well here's a wild and wooly help file to help
you get started. Hopefull, after reading this, you won't have quite so many
questions on getting the items into your patch, only questions on using your
patch. And bear in mind that this (attempted) tutorial describes MY means of
copying from FiSH to FiSH, (my nickname), and may not suit your needs. with that
in mind, lets begin with a discription of my method of creating a new patch.
First step is to CREATE A NEW DIRECTORY! You really don't want to accidentally
mess up your furc installation files, better to use a separate directory for
each patch you're working on. So:
| PROGRAMS |
FURCADIA |
FURCADIA TOOLS |
FURCADIA FOLDER |
| documents |
|
|
|
| favorites |
|
|
|
| control panel |
|
|
|
| START MENU |
|

Once there, click into the PATCHES directory. Now, we're going to be getting
two files out of default, but first, create a new directory here. Then click
into the PATCHES directory and CTRL+LEFT MOUSE CLICK ITEME.FSH and FLOORE.FSH.
Release the CTRL key, and then CTRL+C to tell Windows you want to COPY them. Go
back up into PATCHES and CTRL+V to paste them there. Now what you have is a
backup set of ITEME and FLOORE in case you mess up somewhere along the line. Now
without pause, click into your fresh, brand new, patch directory and again,
CTRL+V to copy them there. Now double click on that ITEME to open it in the FSH
Editor. The screen should look like this:

To get rid of that sign, which you don't need, and also consumes a slot in
the patch, click and drag your mouse from below the lower right-hand corner up
to the upper left, and press delete. Your FiSH should look like the next shot:

Just so you know, there's a flaw with FshEdit, if you were to close the file,
it will not prompt you about changes at this point.
So just make it a habit to always click FILE / SAVE on a regular basis to make
sure you don't end up with a bug in your patch and can't find it. Now my
preference for working on two patch files is demonstrated by the screenshot
below: (click to see a pseudo-enlarged version )
(Alternate layout here for keeping furc in
view.)
What you see is that I've opened both Shape Properties* sub-windows along with
the Shape Position* sub-windows and positioned everything to where I can see
everything at once. I should however state that this is NOT how I always arrange
things, but it's a good starting point for beginning patching. As you get
experienced with patching, you might find yourself able to not only cut and copy
both sets of *E.FSH files, but work on your dream and DS as well as stay in
touch with furc at the same time. Generally, I'll have them adjusted so I can
keep an eye on furc, so if I really lag when talking with you, it's because I
got several windows in my way.
