French Toast Whisper Log---------------
Session started Wednesday 4/8/2004 6:14
Question: Do you know what program I use to make a portrait that would be able to be used in a dream to alter the eagle portrait picture? I noticed that only one dream has an alternative to it and I was interested in making one.
[ the rules on ports follow the rules on anything in the player patch, that is, remappable colors must be in the proper places ]
Question: But how would I go about doing that? The player patch is the colours of the character right? How do I make remappable colours, what program do I use?
[ the colors in the player patch are remappable ]
Question: OK okay, so do I just make a portrait using whatever colours I want and the program will remap the colours for me?
[ when you're in the patch editor, (fsh edit), under colors, you will find the 'remapping' colors for whichever part of the port you're editing ]
Question: okay let me open that program because I am completely lost.
Question: I still don't understand, is there a tutorial anywhere on how to make them?
[ not as far as i know ]
Question: i'll just read the help from the FSH editor before I bother you anymore...
[ when you click on colors, the menu that opens displays a bunch of submenus with titles such as Badge Colors, Boot Colors and so on ]
Question: yes I saw that, a big white box comes up when I press it.
[ now to get a reference to all this, select boot colors, and that's a bug ]
[ usually, you end up with a row of colors, and two selected colors outside that line of colors ]
Question: I have one row of colours it's all a dark red gradiation line, and one block of green.
[ that block of green is 'outside' the remappable colors, right click on any of the row and it will go away ]
[ those eight colors is what's used to 'shade' the boots for a port/player ]
[ to get an idea of where the 'shades' come from, open the player editor ]
[ select the tab boots ]
Question: I see all of those colours
[ the boxes in player editor represent the 'shades' for each 'color' for whatever it is that you're editing ]
Question: okay.
[ each of those 'colors' is actually a group of colors, which is how you get some of the wild and hairly colors in hair :op ]
[ i actually clipped one button from the player editor to see this ]
Question: ?
[ took a screen shot and clipped out a button ]
Question: ah
Question: still don't under stand what clipping a button is
Question: or the hair thing
[ the box, not including the border, is 17x17, so each 'level', kinda like an onion, is a shade of color for that 'color' ]
Question: ah!
Question: that's why it's a square destressed graidient!
Question: I thought they were just being fancy
[ yep, the center is the lightest 'color' and the outside edge is the darkest. ]
[ so now i got you onto the right track? ]
Question: I think so
Question: but the whole row thing isn't working
[ only the row for that particular element of the player/port should be selectable ]
[ most of the colors are 2 deep ]
Question: 2 deep?
[ looking at one button, i got 1 layer of darkest, then 2 each of the next 3 layers, then a center for the lightest ]
[ there is "8" bands of color, but 3 are replicated, so you only end up with 5 shades for many of the player colors ]
Question: ok
