On occasion, I get interested in the most unusual subject matters, and this is the result of one such investigation, mainly I wanted a reference to everywhere a furre can see on a map.

To explain something of what you see, in the NE/NW directions, to get effective "don't see that" positions, you need to travel 8 spaces from the center point, 7 gets you to the edge of visibility in line of sight from the furre, but that red and blue you see in the corners is a pair of walls which would still be visible. In the SE/SW directions the 7th tile would be the last tile visible from the furre's point of view, using the Wall_# heights as a reference, to ensure that one of them is not visible to the furre, you would want them to be 11 tiles from the center.

In going the cardinal directions (NSEW), north is easy to see, at the 4th tile straight up, you loose visibility, the "4&1/2" tile (labeled 518 in the picture though you can't see it), is the last available visible position in which something will be seen. Down south, it's about the same, for reference, that blue / red next to the right 516 is a set of tall walls. So minimum distance that direction would be 7 tiles away, the reference at 515 would be technically "3&1/2" tiles away.

Going east and west, (or right and left), you can see that it only takes 3 direct tiles to get something out of sight of the targer furre, however, if you look real close at the left edge of the image, you can see a stripe of red. And yes, that is a reference wall there, so if you can tolerage the slight offset from the wall appearing in your dream's point of view for a location, not a problem, otherwise to truely get something out of sight going west (left), you would need to go 4 in that direction.

Depending on what you have at any particular location, it may or may not be visible at one of the extremes, your milage may vary. And this is only for visibility, it does not take into account the "hearability" of a particular location on the map from a given point. Will probably update this later when I get a chance to "ping" a couple of alts on that map.

se.gif And just how far do you hear in furcadia?

Well, to answer this question, I stuck the following DS into the dream:

DragonSpeak
(0:1) Whenever somebody moves,
  (1:5) and they successfully moved,
(1:70) and their name is {altname},
(5:351) set variable %pong to the X,Y position the triggering furre moved to.

Then set up two bots, one bot, when it saw that line of DS trigger, said the position into which the furre moved into, (or in this case, the other bot se.gif), and the other bot canvassed the map. The results were interesting to say the least, apparently you can hear further going South and West than you can going North and East. I overlaid the visual limits reference image onto the resulting aural limits mapping for ease of use.

By the directions:

And there you have it, a strange reference image to use when packing them rooms and second floors onto a map.

Footnote, when putting this together, I noticed that just below the 515, there is two colored pixels, one red, one blue, so apparently, there's also a 1 pixel visibility factor involved with the tall walls in the Southern direction as well.
